Conclusions

             and

future implications

Overall, both the quantitative and qualitative results show a strong indication of the effectiveness of the TPR strategy in helping English Language Learners (and native speakers) learn vocabulary words.

The qualitative and quantitative results of this study both indicate strong correlations between using TPR with ELLs (and most learners) in 4th grade and positive scores on a vocabulary quiz. After analyzing the results of the vocabulary quiz, interviewing students, and discussing the research process, my partner and I determined that using TPR did help the majority of her students learn vocabulary words to answer cloze sentences.

Future Instrution

When the teacher instructs on new vocabulary words she will now consider accompanying actions with each word to help students remember. Per feedback on the Google survey, she might introduce fewer words each day.

Effective!

The qualitative and quantitative results of this study both indicate that using TPR with ELLs (and most learners) in 4th grade was effective in helping students learn vocabulary words to answer cloze sentences.

Extra practice

The teacher will try to provide practice time in the morning and afternoon of the school day.

Clarification

Prior to giving a vocabulary quiz, the teacher might also clarify directions and explain the use of a word bank to ensure students understand what to do.
